Hammock Camping: When setting up a hammock camp you will need a hammock, 2 straps to hold the hammock up, carabiners, rain fly, blanket or hammock cushion, rope or paracord, stakes, hammer or rock, a first aid kit and maybe even throw in a bug net. This is the simplest form of camping and also the lightest. All of these items can fit in a small carrying bag or backpack. This type of camping can make for a quick setup and a fast tear down. Very convenient when you are on the move each day, for example: hikers and backpackers who walk long distances then setup camp for the night and move on the next day.
Tent Camping: When you plan on using a tent for camping your setup can change drastically and so can your gear. A hikers can carry a small, single person, lightweight tent just as well as a hammock, however, larger tents for larger group sizes make many tents a set it and forget it camp. It stays there all weekend. This is great because now you can bring anything that you can fit or carry on the trip. If you are having a campfire you will need cutting tools like an axe or a small compact saw for cutting firewood. You will want stakes, rope or paracord, hammer, cooler for food and drinks, tarps for underlaying of tent and rain fly for above, sleeping bag, pillows, blankets, mess kits, tool kits, first aid kit, waterproof items are always best. Use your imagination of what camping is to you and utilize all the tools and accessories that will help make it the best camping trip ever.
Campers: Using a camper for a fun get away is always great too. Although you are technically hauling a portable mini home they are very convenient. Many have built in kitchens and bathrooms, A/C and Heat, Tv’s and fireplaces, as well as lazy boy recliners. Some people even refer to this type as “glamping”. Campers are usually much easier to setup since it all in one shell and ready to go. Just park it, stabilize it, and connect any and all hookups. Hookups could include cable, internet, power, water, sewer, solar etc… When using a camper you can almost bring just about anything you want, but always be mindful of the weather. Many campers with water connections will need to be extremely cautious of freezing temperatures as they can cause pipes to burst if not protected or winterized.
There are several other ways people often camp such as kayaking, climbing, and boating, but the ones we discussed are definitely the most common.
